Online Teaching and Research
From the first attempt of online teaching in mid-February to the implementation of the 'Double-Teacher Classroom' teaching mode in March, the online teaching and research activities of Anqing Foreign Language School's Primary Department have never stopped, guiding the direction of online teaching for teachers and providing a strong guarantee for students to study at home.
After the practice of online teaching for two weeks in February, teachers continued to explore and learn the application of live streaming software, initially got familiar with the operation process of online teaching, and accumulated experience for further improving online teaching. On 2nd March, in order to ensure the students to watch and participate in the recorded lesson learning in Anhui Province, guarantee the learning effect of 'Double-Teacher Classroom', on 29th February, by means of the Tencent meeting platform, each group leader of the teaching and research group of all subjects as well as leaders with the lesson preparation groups discussed the work methods of online education and teaching in March, and reached a consensus. At the meeting, all the teachers were required to be familiar with the watching method of recording and broadcasting classes in Anhui Province, attend lectures and write down records of the lectures. Meanwhile, teachers were supposed to prepare lessons in advance, and write the learning plan guidance for students to preview before class. On the other hand, teachers of various disciplines provided online tutoring and answered questions for students through a variety of channels, such as video, audio and live streaming classes. After class, teachers offered knowledge supplement, answered questions online, assigned homework, corrected homework and gave feedback in addition to providing individual counseling.
After the meeting, each teaching and research group and lesson preparation group took active actions, and held several meetings of teaching and research group and lesson preparation group on different levels to share good practices in online teaching and solve problems.
To be specific, teachers of the English group participated in the production of beautiful articles and read English picture books to accompany students with sounds and beautiful articles, which improved students' interest in learning English. Besides, the English morning reading task is clear, which let students start a new day of learning in the morning reading. During the process of guiding students to preview and review, English teachers used the tool of mobile phone recording screen to send some key points to students in advance, which can reduce students' learning burden. The guide plan and the design of completion of task week by week are closely related to the key and difficult points of online courses, which are easy for students to understand and master. At the meeting, the whole group of teachers discussed how to maximize the quality of online teaching and guarantee the effect of learning.
The Chinese teaching and research group carried out the activity of 'reading at home to fight against the pandemic', urging students to read at home. In the meantime, teachers implemented the activity of 'fighting against the pandemic, reading aloud at home' to read texts and narrate on picture books for the students, the effect of which was remarkable. The Chinese teachers actively explored the new mode of online teaching, and adopted the mode of screen sharing plus continuous mic voice dialogue, which improved students' participation in class. Also, the task oriented morning reading was initiated. Through the DingTalk platform, teachers reviewed students' written or phonetic homework, and selected excellent homework, which played a leading role in the demonstration of outstanding students, and created a good learning atmosphere in the class group. At the end of the meeting, the Chinese group made clear the work focus for the next stage: based on the curriculum standards, teachers should prepare each lesson well and prepare to carry out the special online teaching and research activity of 'experience sharing and exchange for promotion'.
Furthermore, teachers of the music, art, information, sports and science groups held the comprehensive group teaching and research meeting through the WeChat platform. In order to promote the overall improvement of students' quality, cultivate their sentiment and enhance their physique, teachers in the comprehensive group have insisted on giving guidance to students in the online tutorial class by formulating guidance plans, recording videos and audio during the class suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, students did handcraft, practiced painting and calligraphy, did scientific experiments, sang and danced at home, the arrangement of which met students' psychological needs and enriched their home-based learning life. At the meeting, the group leader asked the teachers of all subjects in the group to prepare lessons and record videos so as to attract more students to participate in and gain from the high-quality courses.
Mathematics teaching and research group meeting focused on how to use online tutorial and multi-channel counseling, answering questions to ease the problem of too fast progress of the course. The teachers in the math group collected the problems that students met in class in time, gave targeted answers in the online tutorial, and explained the prominent problems in the homework to the students. In addition to the tutorial time, each teacher was able to answer the questions raised by individual students in private.
In conclusion, the online teaching during the coronavirus pandemic period is a new challenge for the teachers. The teachers of Anqing Foreign Language School's Primary Department continued to perfect and improve the online teaching through teaching, research and practice, who used their love, responsibility, patience to care for each student to provide a strong guarantee for the growth of students and escort students on their road to study!
